Rzilient completed its carbon footprint at the end of 2021

And don't wait any longer to simplify the management of your computer equipment.

It is no longer a scoop, global warming is on the verge of reaching +1.5°C - a limit set during the Paris Agreements, and, as explained in the latest IPCC report published in August 2021, Human Responsibility is unequivocal.

Following our signing of the Climate Act - alongside our colleagues AkaGreen, Backmarket and Friday - we thus embarked on the realization of our first carbon footprint at the end of 2021 in order to ultimately reduce our footprint. Because, in fact, “each company must know its carbon footprint in order to be able to limit it effectively”. Since Rzilient's footprint is certainly not much compared to those of Amazon or Microsoft, each agent and economic player must nevertheless do their part.

This assessment is therefore an opportunity for us to communicate on the first brick of our climate commitment!

Rzilient partnered with Sami to carry out its carbon footprint in 2021

Why do a carbon assessment?

Without going into the details of the obvious need for any company to contribute to global net zero, in a VUCA world that is volatile - uncertain - complex - ambiguous (to use the expression used by Ivan Mariblanca Flinch in his item on digital sobriety), implementing a low-carbon strategy is no longer an option in order to adapt to global changes.

However, the climate actions proposed and put forward by Sami are precisely inspired by the Net Zero Initiative, insofar as they do not talk about carbon neutrality at the corporate level, distinguish between reduction, avoidance and absorption, while refuting the principle of compensation (which, we know, is a questionable low-carbon strategy). It is thus through the measurement and setting of ambitious and achievable goals, and the principle of contribution, that we are moving forward hand-in-hand in our climate commitment.

Insofar as our mission is to support organizations in reducing their digital footprint (one of the largest emission stations in a world of increased digitalization), we are striving to put the reduction of our own impact at the heart of our DNA. Consistency and beliefs are mandatory.

Our carbon footprint in 2021

In view of our already existing partnership with sami and our excellent relationships, we have therefore decided to be supported by them in the exercise of our 2021 Carbon Footprint.

Beyond simply measuring our footprint over the year, Sami provides real support in order to help define reduction objectives as well as in the implementation of a corresponding action plan and its follow-up - which we particularly appreciate! Because measuring your footprint is one thing, if it is not followed by climate actions, the exercise is useless.

Carbon footprint distribution at Rzilient

Thing said and done, our absolute footprint in 2021 was 82 TC02eq including the 3 scopes. This figure in itself does not mean much to anyone, which is why it is interesting to understand our positioning within Sami's client database, and within our sector of activity (based on data from Ademe and CDP).

Not only is our intensity per employee lower than the average and median (customers who have completed their Carbon Assessment with Sami), but our economic carbon intensity (compared according to two databases in the IT products sector) is also lower than the average and median (customers who have completed their Carbon Assessment with Sami) is also lower than the average, which demonstrates the value of refurbished versus new in an iT management policy!

Next: Reduction, contribution and awareness-raising actions

We are not stopping there! The next step is to maximize our contribution to the reduction of our induced emissions (direct and indirect), to increase the emissions avoided through the sale of our low-carbon products and services, as well as the increase of carbon sinks through the financing of sequestration projects through our collaboration with Pur Projet (more information soon...). At the same time, we intend to make our stakeholders aware of climate issues as a lever for action - the more we do, the better!

Sami's recommendations to reduce our emissions

We have therefore defined short and long-term objectives to, first of all, reduce emissions related to our reconditioning circuit, decarbonize our business trips and raise internal awareness of climate issues.

Level of knowledge and sensitivity to climate issues internally

Since the majority of the team says they are sensitive to the climate issue and most consider that they do not know enough about it, we will work to move the two curves to the right so that the members of the Rzilient team become true climate ambassadors. 💪

A big thank you Sami, it's just the beginning!
