I requested a repair and received both an approved and an unapproved quote. Why the difference?
To broaden your repair options, quotes come from two types of repairers: Apple-authorized repairers and independent repairers.
Sometimes the cost of repair at an authorized service provider is comparable or even higher than the price of replacing the faulty Mac.
Conversely, choosing an independent repairer may be more financially beneficial in these cases, as they often use less expensive unofficial parts and/or offer labor at a lower rate than authorized repairers.
However, it is important to note that the use of unofficial parts may impact the validity of the warranty in the event of a problem covered by it later. That's why we generally recommend independent repairers for Macs that are no longer under warranty!
If you have specific questions when receiving these quotes, do not hesitate to ask our Support for details.
